Major Responsibilities
1) Professional Duties and Role Accountability • Promotes an approach to residence hall services which is aligned to the Organisation’s Mission, Principles and the residence hall practices • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of common approaches, policies, programmes and research relating to residence hall services • Contributes to the School Leadership Team’s (SLT) planning and decision-making by offering a strategic overview of the residence hall services in the school • Attends meetings with SLT to provide regular feedback on residence hall operations • Adheres to and actively promotes school policies and procedures • Acts as a positive role model for staff and students by taking responsibility for the continuous improvement of residence hall services within the context of the school • Shares responsibility and accountability for ensuring high standards and the provision of quality services to the school community • Is involved in the recruitment process for RHT as requested by the SLT • Shares relevant information with day school staff to ensure best outcomes for students and parents • Consults with the SLT and/or Child Protection Team as appropriate and necessary in matters affecting the welfare and safeguarding of students • Maintains familiarity with emergency procedures, oversees that drills are carried out effectively and, if necessary, offers suggestions for improvement • In collaboration with the SLT and other members of the school community, plans for a possible medical outbreak or crisis • Keeps a weekly record of Health and Safety items, reports matters arising as appropriate and ensures prompt response • Effectively organizes and utilizes electronic record keeping
2) Supervision and Operational Coverage (RHT) • Supervises RHT night shift and early morning shift, with scheduled overnight leadership duty • Will have allocated weekend duties for the 7-day programme, followed by weekday time off, for those duty weeks • Deals with emergencies in the RHT • Supports with supply teacher cover, for weekend duty if there is no other teacher available • Attends open days to promote the RH programme for the school
3) Leading and Managing RHTs plus Other Residence Hall Staff and Interns • In collaboration with the SLT, ensures the transition of new residence hall teachers/staff/interns is a positive and valuable experience in order to prepare for their roles and responsibilities • Coordinates and keeps accurate records of regular departmental meetings • Demonstrates a collaborative leadership style which generates trust with all relevant personnel • Oversees the implementation of the school and residence hall’s policies and procedures • Models best practice in the implementation of programme initiatives • Manages the performance and meeting agreed targets of the department • Mentors and coaches the RHT and facilitates peer learning opportunities • Encourages all RHT to keep up-to-date with best practices by participating in Professional Development • Monitors and assesses all areas outlined in the Residence Hall Handbook and RHT Job Description • Carries out RHT appraisals/performance management and reports findings to SLT • Shares relevant information with all RHT • Creates effective teams by inspiring and motivating RHT and students • Organizes team building activities for RHT • In collaboration with RHT and the Health and Safety Department, undertake and maintain risk assessments for trips • Ensures accurate records of student location and movements are kept by those on duty • Holds RH teachers to high standards in implementing their duties, including study hall
Student Learning and Well-being • In collaboration with the Admissions Department, interviews potential residents for residence hall enrolment • Reads record files for new residents in order to become familiar with their interests, needs and concerns • Assigns each student to a dormitory comprising of age peers and disseminates any necessary information regarding the student to all relevant parties • Organizes orientation activities and welcomes all new residents and their parents • In collaboration with RHT, supports the transition of: - new residents - residents who are leaving the school - residents whose friends are leaving the school - this will take place at the start/end of the school year and, as necessary, during the year • Nurtures and supervises residents of all ages with compassion, consistency and fairness • Ensures strong emphasis is given to study commitments so that students’ learning is enhanced • Encourages positive relationships between RHT and residents so that residents feel comfortable and able to share their concerns • Provides opportunities for the regular sharing of feedback by RHTs on individual resident’s well-being • Ensures and oversees a variety of programmes and activities take place to enhance learning, develop interests and promote well-being • In collaboration with RHT and residents, create a healthy and safe environment where students’ self-esteem and sense of worth are enhanced and where values such as respect, responsibility, tolerance and striving for excellence are promoted • Promoting and maintaining the behaviour and conduct of residents to a high standard and, if necessary, dealing fairly with misbehaviour with appropriate consequences
Deployment of Staff and Resources • Deals effectively with all operational, budgeting and record keeping requirements • Develops a residence hall calendar • Organizes and evaluates learning programmes and activities in collaboration with RHT and students • Ensures fair and effective operations of the RHT • Creates a duty roster system and allocation of tasks to RHT • Creates and maintains records of residents’ attendance, special medical needs, learning needs and concerns • Ensures the day-to-day effective organisation of the residence hall • Identifies appropriate resources for the residence hall and ensures they are used efficiently, effectively and safely
Strengthening Community • Promotes a professional, caring and supportive learning atmosphere within the residence hall • Works collaboratively at both strategic and operational levels with other members of the school community • Communicates effectively and works closely with parents in all aspects of the provision of services to students within the residence hall • Supports parents in gaining access to information about the residence hall • Creates periodic residence hall newsletters • Encourages RHT to communicate regularly with parents by email • Liaises with relevant school departments in matters of finance, purchasing, security, health care, housekeeping, meals, marketing and admissions • Builds positive relationships and lines of communication with teachers • Updates residence hall enrolment, vacancy and capacity information for required departments in the school • Gives presentations during school and outside events as necessary and as requested by the SLT • Works closely with the Parent Relation Officer for enquiry and concerns raised by parents • Liaises with feeder schools or with subsequent schools, as necessary, to share relevant information
Professional Development • Is a reflective learner who takes responsibility for professional development and progression (taking into account the school’s priorities, their own professional needs and which support students’ learning), making full use of the opportunities and training provided by the school • Reviews, promotes and implements enhanced practices by research into best practices and by seeking and using regular feedback from the SLT, colleagues, parents, students and (if appropriate) from alumni for ongoing improvement
Pastoral • Be aware of the social and emotional wellbeing of students and the need to respond to particular situations • Monitor and address behavioural issues • Refer repeated behavioural issues and more serious behavioural issues to the relevant Programme Level Coordinator • Investigate behavioural issues, as needed • Monitor at-risk students and refer when necessary to the Student Success Team (SST) • Monitor student attendance within the grade level • Enforce the uniform policy of the school • Be flexible in arranging and supporting targeted programmes for identified students • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all pupils and teachers at school • Work with Student Success and Support personnel when needed • Be familiar with the School’s Child Protection Policy and to report concerns to the designated Child Protection Officer

| Description: | Yew Wah International Education Schools (YWIES) are built upon the many decades of experience of Yew Chung International School in offering quality international education in Hong Kong and mainland China. Dr Betty Chan Po-king and Professor Paul Yip Kwok-wah have founded the Yew Wah series of schools with a passion to bring international education to mainland Chinese students. Yew Wah International Education Centre was first set up in Shanghai in 1998, and the first YWIES was founded in Yantai in 2000, and Yew Wah continues to extend its education services by starting up Yew Wah International Education Kindergartens and Yew Wah Infant and Toddler Education Centres in Chongqing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and Rizhao. In 2012, Yew Wah initiated the “BP International Education Park” project in Yizhuang, Beijing where YWIES Beijing is in an active planning stage. YWIES Guangzhou in Huadu opens in September 2014.
