INTRODUCTION
Overview
Yew Wah international education service is built upon the many decades of experience of Yew Chung Education Foundation in offering quality international education in Hong Kong and mainland China. Yew Chung was founded by a pioneer of international education in China, Madam Tsang Chor-hang, in Hong Kong in 1932. In recent decades, Madam Tsang's daughter, Dr Betty Chan Po-king, together with Prof. Paul Yip Kwok-wah, set up Yew Chung International Schools in Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing and Qingdao for overseas and non-Chinese citizens. In 2002, the couple opened a formal Yew Chung International School in Silicon Valley, US, the first attempt to export the Yew Chung model of international education which combines Eastern and Western cultures.
With their experience in international education, Dr Chan and Prof. Yip started the Yew Wah series of international education for Chinese citizens in major cities of Shanghai, Yantai, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Beijing, Qingdao, Rizhao, Guangzhou and Tongxiang in China which overseas or non-Chinese students are also eligible to apply for. The series aims at allowing more students to enjoy quality international education provided by Yew Wah.
Registered in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Yew Wah International Education Foundation (HKYWIEF) manages schools of Yew Wah in line with the national education policy. The schools include formal, institutionalised international education schools of Matriculation, Secondary, Primary and Early Childhood. The Foundation is also authorised by established overseas international open examination boards and institutions to set up examination centres and curriculum systems in China. It also offers accredited continuing education, language education and online learning. In the future, the Foundation is going to open more Yew Wah schools in China. In face of the challenges of the new century's education and lifestyles, Yew Wah is committed to promoting the internationalisation of China's education.
Strength
Yew Wah advocates a pioneering educational mission and philosophy. Quality teaching staff and resources on the mainland and from abroad are synergised to introduce to students a broader understanding of the globalised world, qualities deemed necessary for them to understand different cultures and proactively participate and lead the world in the 21st century.
The well-established consortium of Yew Wah expertise consists of professional expatriate teachers and local teachers with international education background and experience in teaching English as a second language. Authentic English learning environment and highly international atmosphere are created for our students; the multicultural background of teachers and students allows students to effectively build experience and abilities to succeed in cross-cultural interactions.
For matters from pedagogical practices to education assessment mechanisms, Yew Wah adopts and draws reference from methodologies and systems widely recognised in the world. The close connection established between Yew Wah and mainland and overseas education professionals enables the sustained growth of our education excellence. With long-time practice of the Cambridge International Education system, we have conducted in-depth researches and studies of IGCSE and A Level curriculum. On the other hand, the kindergartens of Yew Wah adopt the effective Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-R) as the self-assessment scheme in advocacy of the importance of education quality assessment to early childhood education.
The Yew Wah series of International Education Schools and Arts and Language Centres possess an extensive global network and resources. We are the authorised Cambridge International Examinations Centre (CIC) of Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), ESOL examination centres of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examination Board (LCCIEB), Education Development International (EDI) and Trinity College London. Yew Wah has also established formal links with universities providing the corresponding programmes. These strong alliances facilitate Yew Wah students to pursue further studies overseas.
